Overseeing the Intercontinental Hotel Group Cleveland to include, the Intercontinental Conference Center Cleveland at 294 rooms fifteen floors with two full-service restaurants and laundry facility, Intercontinental Suites at 162 rooms eight floors with one full-service restaurant and the Holiday Inn Cleveland Clinic at 276 room eight floors with one full-service restaurant and indoor pool. Additional duties include Safety Committee Chairperson and lead in InterContinental’s Green Engage program, which includes monitoring of all utilities and finding ways to reutilize and reduce our carbon footprint. Notable accomplishments include rebuilding a team that needed organization, care, and training and passing a corporate risk safety audit with minimal time to prepare.

Overseeing engineering for Westin Hapuna Beach Resort at 314 rooms and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel at 252 rooms. Developed and implemented a preventative maintenance program to prolong the life of the resort’s assets. Negotiated maintenance contracts with outside vendors, worked with third party contractors, establishing standard operating procedures. Established year and five-year capital improvement plans. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of two engineering departments.

Headed projects such as replacing Roofing system at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Green and Carbon Neutral certification and Solar install evaluation estimated at 1.5 Megawatts.

Working directly with owners as Project Manager, while maintaining responsibilities as Director of Engineering for a 151 room Five Star secluded Island Resort Property with 101 Engineers and up to 250 contractors.  The Resort consists of 2 Villa Islands and 1 Staff Island with a 15-megawatt power plant, 1,200 cubic meter Reverse Osmosis system, Pools, and Grounds. Project’s include remodeling and construction of 50 water villa’s, 43 deluxe beach villa’s, 21 over water villa’s, renovation of a 5-star buffet, installation of main power transformers to include high and low voltage cabling infrastructure and installation of VRV Air-conditioning systems; also, a team member for the world’s first underwater sea villa project “Muraka” that opened November 2018.

Responsibilities include complete oversight of all projects and engineering for a 233 room Hotel and Casino to include 2,900 square meters of table games and slots, gift shop, 3 food and beverage outlets, conference center, pool, 4.8-megawatt power plant and 2,000-ton chiller plant. Passed annual audits issued by corporate compliance team concerning Life Safety and Security, Food and Beverage Safety and Sanitation and Hotel Room Brand Standards. A team member in the development of a 15 story 5 Star Marriott Hotel with Water Park, to include casino expansion. Created and maintained a daily preventive maintenance system decreasing deficiencies and increasing guest satisfaction by maintaining brand standards. Additional responsibilities included pre-opening and management of construction, electrical and mechanical for a new two-story Back of House office complex and 1,500 square meter casino expansion.

As General Manager responsibilities included re-branding and overall management and direction of a 224 room Beach Front Resort to include Electronic Gaming Casino, 880 Duty Free Shopping, Gift Shop, Adventure Zone Water Park, Beachside BBQ and Bar, Buffet Dinning Facility, 24 Hour Café, Banquet Facilities, Nightclub, Spa and Gym. Maintaining brand standards issued by corporate office to ensure compliance with bi-yearly owner inspections, recruiting, training, and monitoring of 125 full time and 40 on call staff; In charge of developing budgets, financial plans, statistical and financial reports, sales, and profit targets, worked with sales and tour agents, created marketing and promotional materials; subsequently increased average room rate by 50%.  Created new dining venues and increased Food and Beverage profits. Additional responsibilities include overseeing all Engineering Projects such as designing and installing a 1.2-million-dollar Chiller System for two of the properties saving 1.1 million dollars per year in energy reduction. Also, instrumental in compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations. The first year after my arrival the resort was profitable, prior to this the resort did not show profit for the prior 7 years.

Imperial Palace Resort and Spa, Cebu Philippines

Responsibilities included direction of 98 engineering and landscaping staff, maintaining a 557 room Five Star Resort with 19.7 Acre Waterpark, Sewage Treatment Plant, and 6-Megawatt Power Plant. Engineering was Instrumental in setting up all programs and procedures and passing all corporate inspections concerning ISO 90001:2008 certifications which was received during my tenure. Established and implemented all guidelines to maintain HACCP regulations and responsible for passing strict inspections performed by corporate compliance team. Projects include installation of 3,500 LED lights, synchronization of a 6-megawatt power plant, obtained government emissions and sewage treatment certification, upgrading of a 1240 cubic meter (about half the volume of an Olympic-size swimming pool) sewage treatment plant, re-designed and installation of new Air-handling components, designed a new boiler plant and fun slide ZIP line, also installed an LED synchronized outdoor lighting system creating a colorful outdoor atmosphere.

As Director of Engineering responsibilities included directing all aspects of multiple divisions to include Engineering of a 300-room destination resort and contributing to two associated corporate hotels, Fiesta Saipan (425 rooms) and Saipan Grand Hotel (224 rooms). Maintained and passed comprehensive Life and Safety Audits by the Department of Defense and Local agencies and participated in Brand Standard Audits by corporate. Not limited to planning strategic outlines, capital projects, budgetary projections and implementing cost effective measures for divisional management. Responsibilities also include generators, boilers, water equipment, motors, pumps, creating a fire evacuation program, implementing OSHA and EPA permitting and establishing a Preventative Maintenance System. Additional titles held include Safety Manager, Engineering and Environmental Chairperson for the Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association and Guam Chamber of Commerce team member helping the Guam Power Authority gather information for their Integrated Resources Plan.  I had reduced overhead by $339,000 by renegotiating generation fuel contracts and maintaining prime power plants saving up to $25,000 per month. I designed and converted a Diesel and LPG boiler system to run on used vegetable oil saving up to $5,000 per month. Through water usage negotiations and conservation, a saving of $3,500 per month was realized. I converted all high wattage lighting to LED, saving $1,700 per month.

As Director of Engineering responsibilities included maintaining brand standards and all aspects of Engineering operation, maintenance and repair of a 292 room, destination resort, with 43 Engineering staff, on 10 acres of beachfront property with a 990 thousand gallon water park, 3 restaurants, 4 conference facilities, 1 retail outlet, a 2.9 mega-watt prime power generation plant, 800 ton chilled water plant, reverse osmosis water treatment facility, 210,000 gallons of water storage and steam boiler plant and maintaining all life and safety equipment. Designed and built a 4,000 square foot Children’s Play Pool and Second floor decking for Beach Front Restaurant. As Facilities and Mechanical Manager responsibilities included direction and all aspects of Engineering operation, maintenance, and repair to include a 820 room destination resort, with 45 Engineering staff, on 22 acres of beachfront property with a 2.5-million-gallon water park, 7 restaurants, 3 conference facilities, 2 retail outlets, a 5 mega-watt emergency power plant, 1,600-ton chilled water plant and 400,000 gallons of water storage. Designed and installed a 320-ton Air-conditioning system for a premier Banquet Facility.
